(6 days and 5 nights): From Tuxtla to Villahermosa.

TUXTLA AIRPORT, transfer to the dock “Cahuaré” to take the motor boat over the SUMIDERO CANYON, one of the most spectacular nature reserves in Mexico. This canyon was formed out of a geological failure 36 million years ago, whose limestone walls rise up to 1000 meters from the river surface. There are caves and waterfalls, standing out “The Christmas Tree” which is a natural rocky formation. Visit to CHIAPA DE CORZO.

This city was the first settlement founded by the Spanish people. The fountain Mudejar, better known as “La Pila”, was built in the 16th century and it is a great example of the colonial architecture, stressing out the Hispano-Arabic influence.

Walking city tour in SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS; visiting the so-called Market of Fruits and Vegetables, the Handicrafts Market, and the Santo Domingo and Cathedral churches. Visit by car of the Indian villages. SAN JUAN CHAMULA, a Tzotzil Indian village in the Highlands of Chiapas where the ancient beliefs of our ancestors seem to be alive in every minute, and ZINCANTAN, another Tzotzil Indian village where people cultivate flowers and weave textiles that gives a sense of color everywhere in town.

Visit to the Nature Reserve LAGOS DE MONTEBELLO. This Reserve covers up 59 lakes of spectacular beauty. It would be impossible to visit all of the lakes, due to the depth and the diluted organic substances found in each one, that is why we have selected a five group the most representative and accessible lakes. The Archeological Site of CHINKULTIC –“STEPPED-CENOTE” in Tojolabal, is the next stop. The amazing view of this ancient Mayan city can be seen from the main pyramid. On the way back to San Cristóbal we visit AMATENANGO DEL VALLE, a village where women keep the millenary Mayan tradition of making pottery by hand and firing it with firewood in the open. One peculiarity of this village is the matriarchy.

Check out at the hotel in San Cristóbal early in the morning to go to Palenque. 2 hours before arriving to Agua Azul we make a brief stop before Ocosingo, and then we visit the AGUA AZUL WATERFALLS, a magnificent set of waterfalls blue turquoise whose colors are a result from the combination of minerals and the reflection of the sunlight.

Departure from the hotel in Palenque at 6:00 a.m. –Breakfast on the way. Visit to the Archeological Site of BONAMPAK, a mysterious site which holds the finest murals found up to date, representing scenes of war, sacrifice, and celebration; Bonampak is located in the Lacandon Jungle, one of the three most important hemispheres in our continent. We continue to Frontera Corozal to take the motor boat to go over the Usumacinta River, having a great view on each side to the Petén and Lacandon Jungles. With luck you can see spider monkeys, exotic birds and many other animals.

Our destination by boat is the Archeological Site of YAXCHILAN, impressive site beside the Usumacinta River in the heart of the Lacandon Jungle. Its main building is the Temple 33.

Visit to the PALENQUE ruins, one of the most important Mayan archeological sites due to the balance between beauty and power achieved by their dynasty.

Transfer to the VILLAHERMOSA AIRPORT for the flight to the next destination.
